Mom-Care Monday took a hiatus the end of 2017, but it is BACK IN ACTION! I have still been trying to incorporate my own self care into my life, how about you? To be honest the initial weekly frequency of Mom-Care Monday caused some increased stress, in combination with my return to work after having my baby. I put thought into revamping the idea and can’t wait for what 2018 has in store.
I am not one to necessarily make New Year’s resolutions each year. I do like the reminder to set goals for myself but also believe that can be done any day of the year. This year let’s focus on how we as caregivers can be sure we are taking the time (guilt free) to put ourselves first once and a while for self care. The perfect idea of self care in my head might look different than yours and that’s okay. What matters is finding what YOU like and creating a plan to make it happen.
I had a stressful day at work the other day. I wasn’t feeling well and had also put off lunch due to my work schedule, I was overdue for some food. In my travels I decided to stop at one of my favorite Thai restaurants, Thai Bowl. A hot bowl of pho was just what the doctor ordered. Since my husband couldn’t meet me for a little lunch just the two of us I decided to take advantage of the free time for MYSELF.
Since we frequent this restaurant they know me by name, they know my order before I even order it, and they know my kids. After some small chit chatting I pulled out my still unfinished book while I waited for my pho and thai iced tea. That’s a lie. First, I finished organizing some items for work but then I dedicated the rest of the time to reading. Reading is something I truly found to enjoy in my 20s. Being a full time working mom it is just hard to find the time. By the time I get “me time” I am tired or have cleaning to do. What better chance then in Thai Bowl?
Here is my enjoyable 30 minutes of good food, yummy tea, and an enjoyable book.
As we enter 2018 I’ve compiled a list of what I want to put effort into for my self care. I put it here as a reminder and to hold myself accountable to create a plan and make it happen. Everyone needs (and deserves) to recharge their battery. Even better, you can find a way to prevent the charge from going out completely and maintain a healthy self care plan. What ideas do you have for a Mom-Care filled 2018?
Moving forward Mom-Care Monday will be a monthly feature, with some pop up updates and ways to challenge you along the way. I hope you follow my journey but even more so I hope you come on board and join beside me.
