Welcome back to Mom-Care Monday, a weekly feature on my blog promoting self care for all the parents and caregivers in the world. It’s important to take care of ourselves so that we can be the best us for others. One of the things that comes to mind when I think of self-care is the spa! Ah just imagining it is so relaxing. I love how the smell when I enter and the music combine for perfect “me time”. While spas offer many treatments and services, by far my favorite is getting a massage. For one hour I can dedicate time to myself. Time to lay down, close my eyes, and unwind. Time for someone else to work out those knots in my shoulders and relax my body.
The downside and a realistic reason for not getting a regular massage is the price tag. It can get expensive to drop that much on a massage and tip. While it is sooo worth it when I do schedule a massage, it is not something that can happen all the time. That means that when it happens, I cherish it that much more.
Other ways to mimic a professional massage could be a massage seat cushion (a heated massage cushion is my preference for the winter time, since I’m always cold), a pedicure (I’ll take a foot rub over no massage at all), or asking your significant other to lend a hand. Another strategy is to take advantage of Groupon deals on spas in your area. Groupon always seems to have deals on spas and massages.
The next time you’re thinking about focusing a little more time and money on YOU, consider the benefits of a massage…stress and anxiety reduction, health benefits to reduce pain, and reducing muscle tension. YOU deserve it after all.
